Your SOCSO Now Covers You 24/7: Here’s What Changed on 1 June 2026

Starting 1 June 2026, Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation (PERKESO/SOCSO) rolled out its most significant expansion in decades: the Skim Kemalangan Bukan Bencana Kerja Lindung 24 Jam (SKBBK), or simply LINDUNG 24 Jam. So if you notice a new deduction on your next payslip, don’t panic.

What is SOCSO’s LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme?

LINDUNG 24 Jam is a new mandatory SOCSO scheme that gives employees round-the-clock accident protection, including for accidents that happen outside of working hours. Previously, SOCSO’s accident coverage under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 was largely limited to workplace incidents, occupational diseases, and commuting accidents. If you slipped at home on a Sunday or got into an accident at the gym, you were on your own. That gap is now closed.

The scheme was passed by Parliament on 2 December 2025 as an amendment to the Employees’ Social Security Act, and was officially gazetted by the Minister of Human Resources before taking effect on 1 June 2026.

Who is covered under LINDUNG 24 Jam?

Over 9 million formal sector workers registered under Act 4 (SOCSO) are automatically enrolled, no separate registration is required. According to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, existing contributors are covered from day one, while new employees starting after 1 June 2026 will be enrolled through their employer’s standard PERKESO registration process.

Notably, only about 42% of Malaysian workers currently hold personal accident insurance, making this scheme a critical safety net for the majority who had no off-hours protection at all.

What does LINDUNG 24 Jam cover?

According to PERKESO’s official scheme page, the scheme covers personal injury caused by accidents that are not related to employment — think weekend accidents, home injuries, and personal travel incidents within Malaysia. Benefits may include medical expenses, temporary disability allowances, and permanent disability compensation.

What it does NOT cover:

  • Accidents outside Malaysia
  • Foreign workers who have violated the conditions of their work passes

How much does LINDUNG 24 Jam cost employees?

This is the part that shows up on your payslip. The contribution is fully borne by employees, employers do not share this cost. Rates are being phased in according to the official PERKESO contribution schedule:

PhasePeriodEmployee Rate
Phase 1Years 1-2 (from June 2026)0.75% of wages
Phase 2Years 3-51.00% of wages
Phase 3Year 6 onwards1.25% of wages

Contributions are capped at the existing RM6,000 monthly wage ceiling, meaning the maximum deduction in Phase 1 is RM45 per month. Employers are responsible for deducting and remitting the amount on behalf of employees.

Do I need to do anything?

No action is required from existing SOCSO contributors. Enrolment is automatic. If you want to verify your coverage or check your contribution history, log in to perkeso.gov.my or the MySS app. If you hold multiple jobs, you can designate one employer to handle LINDUNG 24 Jam contributions. Speak to your HR department to confirm this arrangement.

What this means for your finances

LINDUNG 24 Jam is a meaningful upgrade to Malaysia’s worker protection floor, particularly for those without personal accident insurance or a comprehensive medical card. At RM45 or less per month, it’s affordable coverage. That said, SOCSO is not a substitute for broader health and life insurance, it covers accidents only, not illness. If you’ve been putting off reviewing your protection gap, now is a good time to compare insurance plans and ensure you’re not underinsured.
