RUMAWIP to be completed by year-end

A total of 80% of the 80,000 Federal Territories Affordable Housing (RUMAWIP) target units has been achieved in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the units in these three territories were listed under the ready, under construction and development order statuses.

He was optimistic that the target of 80,000 would be fully achieved this year instead of its initial 2020 deadline. To date, seven projects with 3,662 units within the city and three with 332 units in Labuan were already fully completed.

He said the programme  became an essential tool to ensure housing developers were not hiking up property prices unreasonably, as RUMAWIP was priced at affordable rates of RM300,000 and below.

“There are 27 projects still open to residents in the Federal Territories and applications can be made at the RUMAWIP portal with a loan facility provided by the Federal Territories Foundation,” he said.

RUMAWIP, which is equipped with basic amenities and located in favourable communities, provides housing options to the medium and low-income working class within the Federal Territories.

The units are priced between RM63,000 and RM150,000 for the low-medium category and between RM150,000 and RM300,000 for those in the medium income category.

To qualify, applicants must earn an income below RM10,000 per month for a single person and RM15,000 per month for married couples.
