10 Klang Valley Tolls To Go Cash-Free In January

Starting noon on January 13, 10 toll plazas on four highways in the Klang Valley will go cash-free as a full-fledged electronic toll payment system takes effect.

Drivers will have to use Smart Tags, Touch ‘n Go or PLUS Miles cards at toll plazas located along the Maju Expressway (MEX), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Cheras-Kajang Highway (Grand Saga) and the Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA).

The Klang Valley tolls affected are:

  • Plaza Toll Putrajaya Utama
  • Plaza Toll Salak Selatan and Plaza Toll Seri Kembangan,
  • Maju Expressway
  • Plaza Toll Pantai Dalam
  • Plaza Toll PJS 5 and Plaza Toll PJS 2
  • New-Pantai Expressway
  • Plaza Toll Seri Muda and Plaza Toll Alam Impian
  • Kemuning Shah Alam Highway (LKSA)
  • Plaza Toll Batu 9 and Plaza Toll Batu 11
  • Grand Saga Highway

The announcement was made last week at the MEX Highway Sdn Bhd office in Cyberjaya.

Association of Highway Concessionaires State-Malaysia president Datuk Zainudin A. Kadir said the move is expected to reduce congestion and will enable a smoother drive for motorists, The Star reported.

He added that all toll plazas involved will have 24-hour reload lanes.

The four highways that will implement the change have been giving out Touch n’ Go cards for free since last month. In total, 140,000 cards will be given out.

Those who have not received or purchased a Touch ‘n Go card can activate their MyKad if the latter has the Touch ‘n Go logo, by loading pre-paid value on it.

Before January 13, each highway concessionaire will be offering Smart Tag units at RM99 for RM20 Touch ‘n Go top up and 10% rebates for two months for all Class 1 motorists from January 13 to March 12.

The conversion of manual payment to electronic is an ongoing process that began in September 2015, with 12 toll plazas at three highways – the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway and the Storm Water Management and Road Tunnel (SMART).

Zainuddin said all toll plazas in the Klang Valley will be converted into the electronic toll payment system by the end of 2016.
