Malaysians Can Soon Fill Up On RON95 For RM1.99/L

Malaysians can look forward to cheaper RON95 petrol prices soon. The government has recently announced that RON95 prices will be reduced to RM1.99/L from RM2.05/L effective 30 September onwards. This was made possible due to targeted subsidies and is a part of the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme.

The good news was conveyed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He says that all Malaysian citizens with a valid driving license will be eligible to benefit from the RON95 subsidy. Based on data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the National Registration Department (JPN), there are around 16 million people who are eligible to receive the subsidy.

As of 30 September, non-citizens and large companies will no longer be eligible for the subsidy and will have to pay the full pride of RM2.60/L, Malaysian citizens will continue to enjoy the subsidised price of RM1.99/L.

Malaysian citizens are eligible to benefit up to 300 litres of BUDI95 subsidised petrol per month. E-hailing drivers will be able to apply for a higher value due to the nature of their work.

It was also mentioned that police and military personnel will get early access to this subsidy – being able to receive its benefits from 27 September onwards. Those within the B40 group, who are recipients of the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR), can also enjoy early access from 28 September onwards.

Similar to how the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme works, no registration will be required. Malaysians will simply need to use their MyKad to benefit from the subsidised prices.

MyKad readers will be installed at shops and petrol pumps to reduce congestion. It should be noted that a valid drivers license is required to receive the subsidy. Those with expired licenses should renew it immediately.
