It was recently announced that Malaysia would be considering an expansion of its B10 biodiesel programme.
Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that such an expansion would require a mandatory use of 10% palm oil within biodiesel, to the industrial sector, its plantations, and commodities, Reuters reports.
Malaysia is currently the second largest exporter of palm oil in the world. Meanwhile, the B10 programme is currently only implemented in the local transportation sector.
Regarding the final decision to implement the B10 programme for the industrial sector, the minister did not provide an exact date.
Malaysia has rolled out a B20 biodiesel programme, which is set to take effect in phases. Datuk Seri Fadillah says that nationwide implementation of the programme would increase crude palm oil consumption to over 1 million tonnes per annum.
He added that this commitment is already included in the 12th Malaysia Plan and National Energy Policy 2022-2040.
According to the news report, a new mandate to use biodiesel with 30% palm oil would likely be implemented in 2025.
