New Govt Statistics Reveal That Selangor Has The Highest Life Expectancy

The Department Of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has just released some new information on Malaysian life expectancy. 

Life expectancy at birth

In the new report titled “Abridged Life Tables, Malaysia, 2021-2023”, it was revealed that newborn babies born in the year 2021, 2022 and 2023 on average are expected to live until 74.0 years, 73.8 years and 74.8 years, respectively.

Baby boys have a slightly lower estimated life expectancy, with newborn boys born in 2021, 2022 and 2023 on average are expected to live until 71.8 years, 71.5 years and 72.5 years.

Baby girls born in the year 2021, 2022 and 2023 on average are expected to live until 76.5 years, 76.4 years and 77.4 years.

Life expectancy at specific ages

Males who reach the age of 15 in the year 2023 are expected to live for another 58.3 years, while females are expected to live for another 63.1 years.

Interestingly enough, those who are at the age of 60 in 2023 are expected to live a bit longer than their younger counterparts. Males at age 60 can expect to live for another 18.3 years. Females at this age can expect another 21.1 years of life.

Those who reach the age of 65 in 2023 have around the same life expectancy as the previous age group, with males being expected to live another 14.9 years and females being expected to live another 17.2 years.

Other life expectancy demographics

By ethnicity, it appears that the Chinese population has the highest life expectancy at birth for 2021 to 2023 at 77 years. This contrasts with the Indian population who has the lowest life expectancy at birth with 71.4 years for the same year.

By state, Selangor is recorded to have the highest life expectancy at birth for 2021 to 2023 while Terengganu recorded the lowest life expectancy at birth for the same period.
