What To Do In KL This August 2025 (For Under RM50)

Let’s be honest, KL can sometimes feel like one big spending trap. One wrong turn into a mall and suddenly you’ve got bubble tea in one hand and regret in the other. But this August, the city’s proving you don’t need deep pockets to have a good time. From collector’s gems and girl-powered bazaars to coffee-fueled DJ sets and patriotic runs under RM50, KL’s weekend calendar is packed and we’ve done the wallet-friendly homework for you.
Here’s your ultimate guide to free and almost-free things to do in KL this August 2025- all under RM50 (cause who doesn’t love having fun without breaking the bank?)
Pasar Gadis @ Central Market (1-3 Aug)
Wrap yourself in culture, literally. This sarong-themed Merdeka month market is a celebration of women-led businesses, with free giveaways, interactive booths and live performances. Perfect for guilt-free shopping and getting your Instagram story game on point.
Sunset Jam 2.0 @ Heritage Valley KL (2 Aug)
Special DJ set by Cage (aka Khairy Jamaluddin)? Say less. Sunset views, good coffee by Koppiku, music and a crowd that’s just there to vibe. Tickets are still available at RM50 per pax, so get them while you can and dance till sundown.
KL Collectors Market @ KL Gateway Mall (2–3 Aug)
Nostalgia, assemble! Whether you’re hunting for rare Hot Wheels, figurines, vinyls or vintage apparel, this is your treasure trove. And no entry fee means more to spend on that one thing you definitely don’t need, but must have.
Pesta Kopi Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur @ Semua House (8-10 Aug)
This is not your average hipster coffee fair. We’re talking latte art throwdowns, cup doodling corners and DJ sets that pair perfectly with caffeine highs. Entry is free so come try out coffee from around the world while jamming to good tunes.
Cosplay Summit 2025 @ Summit USJ (9–10 Aug)
Otaku assemble! Whether you’re going full Demon Slayer or just curious, the Cosplay Summit is a vibrant, chaotic and completely free celebration of anime culture. Expect merch, meetups and many, many wigs. P.S: even if you aren’t dressing up yourself, you can still participate by talking to cosplayers and taking pictures with your favourite characters.
What makes August in KL even better? The Merdeka spirit. As the month rolls on, the city comes alive with patriotic energy, from festive runs to cultural pop-ups and proudly local showcases. Whether you’re chasing good vibes, freebies, or just a reason to dress in Jalur Gemilang colours, here are the events that bring the spirit of Merdeka to life.
Merdeka Fun Run (10 Aug)
Lace up for the 5KM or 3KM fun run, early bird fees are still open (and below RM50) and you’ll walk away with a medal and shirt. But hold your horses! The fun doesn’t end after the run, all attendees will be able to stay on for a special Dangdut Zumba and stand a chance to win special lucky draw prizes.
Made in KL @ Semua House (30 Aug – 1 Sept)
End your August with a bang (and maybe a handmade tote). This creative market highlights Malaysian talent through books, crafts and art, think Merdeka, but make it indie.
National Day Parade @ Dataran Merdeka (31 Aug)
Still a classic and arguably the most happening event of the month. It’s free, it’s festive and it’s one of the best places to feel all the Malaysia Boleh vibes. If you get there early enough and be vigilant, you’ll see a bunch of brands doing giveaways around the venue to make it all the more memorable.
Pro tip:
-
- Arrive before 7AM if you want a decent view.
- Bring a cap, sunblock, water and of course your own Jalur Gemilang to join in on the fun.
Bonus: The roads are car-free around the area to accommodate the parade, so walking around post-parade is surprisingly peaceful.
