Penang Second Highest In Tax Collection, But Still Has Issues With Tax Dodgers

The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has named Penang as the state with the second highest tax collection in Malaysia, behind only Sarawak. However, the state is still struggling to deal with the high number of tax dodgers in the state.

According to Penang LHDN, Penang recorded 958,743 taxpayers with a tax collection of RM6.8 billion last year.

This is what the Penang LHDN director, Norfaidah Daud said after the launch of the ‘Lawatan Konsultasi Hasil’ (LKH) 2.0 programme at Menara Hasil in Bukit Mertajam yesterday, as reported by Bernama.

“According to the Penang LHDN records, sole proprietorships have the highest non-compliance rate and their accounts are not well-maintained compared to other types of businesses.

“We must rectify this situation so that this group pays taxes as prescribed by the regulations. That is why we are going to the ground through the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme (PKPS) 2.0.

According to Norfaidah, PKPS 2.0 is an initiative that allows new and existing taxpayers to voluntarily declare their income and ensure accurate and regular tax collections.

Meanwhile, LKH 2.0 is a programme that will see LHDN create a presence among industry players by visiting 215 premises in the state.
