Maybank Launches MAE App And Physical Debit Card

Maybank has launched its MAE by Maybank2U app, as well as a new physical debit card to complement the MAE e-wallet.

The MAE e-wallet was initially launched last year with a virtual debit card, but it has been revamped with a slew of new features.

Datuk Abdul Farid Alias, Maybank’s Group President and CEO, said “MAE by Maybank2u was developed to be more than just a banking app; we want it to be an all-encompassing platform to help our customers manage their day-to-day money matters. Imagine it to be a pocketable digital bank but with many cool features to help you take control of your money.”

The new MAE comes with features to help Malaysians better manage their money according to their own lifestyle.

For example, with the Expenses tool, you can automatically track all your Maybank transactions, which are then categorised into groups like food, utilities or shopping. And if you’re paying with cash instead, you can add those transactions in manually.

Another feature offered is Tabung, which is supposed to help users save money regularly to achieve specific savings goals. You can create a Tabung for yourself, or create one with your friends, which allows you to jointly save for a group goal, such as a vacation.

The Tabung tool comes with three Boosters to help you reach your savings goals:

  • Spare Change – rounds up expenses and transfers the balance into Tabung.
  • Scan & Save – credits savings earned from promotions used during QR transactions.
  • Guilty Pleasure – allows you to set a daily spending limit in any category. If you spend beyond your limit, money will be credited (you choose the amount) into your Tabung.

Besides that, the new MAE Visa Debit card that complements the MAE e-wallet is supposed to offer competitive foreign exchange rates. You can apply for the card through the MAE app, and it will be delivered to you. An application for the card costs RM8, and there’s also an RM8 annual fee.

To use the app, existing Maybank customers will just need to go through a security verification. Non-Maybank customers can sign up too via the app. To try out MAE by Maybank2u, you can download the app on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store .
