Cashless payments have become more acceptable with many Malaysians preferring to use contactless payments for their day-to-day spending.

While there are a ton of ways that you can do contactless payments, such as using your credit card, you can now also use your smartphone or smartwatch to make payments as well.

Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay have all launched their services in Malaysia, however, not all banks support them yet. So, if you’re thinking of going fully smart pay, here’s a list of banks that support them currently.

Apple Pay

iPhone and Apple Watch users are familiar with the convenience of using Apple Pay in Malaysia. However, since they are relatively new in Malaysia, there are not a lot of banks that support them.

Currently, there are 5 banks which you can use Apple Pay with:

  • AmBank
  • HSBC
  • Maybank
  • RHB
  • Standard Chartered

Note: You can also use Apple Pay on Wise (formerly TransferWise) although they are a multi-currency money transfer service provider and not a bank.

One thing to note is that only Maybank supports debit and credit cards for Apple Pay. Ambank, HSBC and Standard Chartered only support Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Meanwhile, RHB only supports Visa credit and debit cards.

Google Pay

Google Pay launched in Malaysia on November 2022. To date, more banks now include Google Pay as a payment method.

In Malaysia, these are the banks that support Google Pay:

  • AmBank
  • Alliance Bank
  • Bank Muamalat
  • CIMB/ CIMB Islamic Bank
  • Hong Leong/ Hong Leong Islamic Bank
  • HSBC/ HSBC Amanah
  • Public Bank
  • RHB Bank
  • Standard Chartered
  • Maybank

Note: Similar to Apple Pay, you can also use Google Pay on Wise (only for Visa Prepaid).

Local news media have also reported that Boost Bank will be the first digital bank to accept Google Pay. However,  the bank has yet to be added to the list provided by Google Wallet.

However not all bank cards can be used on Google Pay. CIMB only allows Mastercard credit cards while RHB Bank provides this for their Visa credit and debit cards only. Meanwhile AmBank, HSBC, Hong Leong, Maybank and Public Bank work for both Mastercard and Visa credit cards.

For the full list of credit and debit cards that support Google Pay, you should refer to the respective bank website. For example, you can find Maybank’s list here.

Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay has been around the longest in Malaysia with the service launching back in 2017. Because of that, they have most of the bigger banks onboard.

While it doesn’t have all local bank support, it does have 7 banks providing payments services using Samsung Pay:

  • CIMB
  • Hong Leong Bank
  • HSBC
  • Maybank
  • Public Bank
  • RHB Bank
  • Standard Chartered

And just like Apple Pay and Google Pay, the service is limited to certain types of cards. RHB Bank, Hong Leong Bank, and Maybank support all credit and debit cards while Public Bank support all cards except Public Bank RCB Elite or RCB Gold debit cards, Lifestyle Mastercard debit cards, and Lifestyle UnionPay debit cards.

Standard Chartered and HSBC bank only support credit cards while with CIMB you can use credit and prepaid cards.
