Amirudin Sworn In For Second Term As Selangor MB

by
Selangor Mentri Besar

After some speculation on who is going to be Selangor’s new Menteri Besar, all questions have been answered this morning. The former Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was sworn in as the Menteri Besar.

Datuk Seri Amirudin will be taking his second term as Menteri Besar after The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has seen fit to appoint him as the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

In the past few days, speculation on who’s going to be the Menteri Besar of Selangor had been ramping up.  Names such as Seri Setia’s assemblyman, Dr Fahmi Ngah and Tanjong Sepat’s assemblyman, Borhan Aman Shah were thrown into the ring as potential Menteri Besar candidates.

Part of the chief concerns that Amirudin will have to deal with is the loosening grip the coalition has on Selangor, as the Pakatan Harapan – Barisan Nasional coalition lost the two-thirds majority they enjoyed in the Selangor State Assembly in the previous term.

The previous State Elections saw the Pakatan Harapan – Barisan Nasional coalition (PHBN) managing to retain Selangor, after winning 34 seats out of 56 seats of the Selangor assembly.

Datuk Seri Amirudin’s immediate predecessor to this political hotseat are Mohamad Azmin Ali, the current Selangor Perikatan Nasional chief. Before that, it was helmed by the late Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
