Like most insurance policies, health insurance is a service you pay for but hope you will never need. Nevertheless, it is an important insurance policy to get. It’s there for the unpredictable, unexpected and fundamentally uncontrollable problems that come up in people’s lives.

With the ever increasing cost of medical treatment in Malaysia and also the outbreak of more diseases among Malaysians, health insurance is no longer a luxury but a necessity.

Health insurance connects the link between health and wealth. With cost of medical treatment steadily increasing by 12% per annum, there will come a time when we are not longer able to afford our medical bills in the event of critical illness.

Uninsured people are also more likely to use up their savings on medical care. Once we have sucked our EPF Account 2 dry, maxed out our credit card, and become heavily in debt, we will have no way of paying our medical bills – especially if we require long and successive hospital admissions and expensive treatments.

Most Malaysians know the importance of not just having a medical insurance policy, but also having an adequate one. However, they do not put it high on their priority, while others just can’t afford the coverage.

Do not dismiss the importance of health insurance for you and your family. You may not need it now, but in an instant, having it could save both your life and your financial health.

The below infographic shows the truth about healthcare in Malaysia, and it may just give you the final push to get yourself the right coverage!
