Malaysia’s Budget 2027 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on <\/span>9 October<\/span><\/a>, and the government has spent the past two weeks giving Malaysians their clearest signals yet on where the money will go.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>When will Budget 2027 be announced?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Budget 2027 will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on 9 October, according to the Parliamentary sitting calendar. This follows Budget 2026’s record RM419.2 billion allocation, and comes as the government continues rolling out the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) from 2026 to 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>What is the government prioritising this time?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

The <\/span>Ministry of Finance has said Budget 2027 will centre on \u201csustainable, inclusive and people-centric\u201d growth<\/span><\/a> under the Ekonomi MADANI framework. In a written parliamentary reply, MOF identified several priorities: strengthening social protection and targeted assistance, continuing gradual and targeted subsidy reforms, raising household income and social mobility, improving public services, and reinforcing fiscal sustainability.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Why is defence spending going up?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Speaking in Melaka on 7 August<\/span><\/a>, Anwar said the government will seek higher defence allocations in Budget 2027 to strengthen the Malaysian Armed Forces’ readiness and improve personnel welfare, arguing that preparedness cannot wait until conflict is imminent. He also called for more transparent, systematic procurement of military equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>What’s happening with development spending?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

The <\/span>Economy Ministry said on 10 August it is in the final stage of screening 2027 development expenditure proposals<\/span><\/a>, with all ministries having already submitted their plans. These will be forwarded to the Finance Ministry as part of the Second Rolling Plan under the 13MP, with a continued focus on high-value industries and ongoing infrastructure projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nothing is confirmed until Budget Day, but MOF’s stated priorities point toward continued targeted subsidy reform rather than blanket cuts, alongside efforts to raise incomes and strengthen social protection.
