The new MyKad, expected to roll out in <\/span>June 2026<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, will <\/span>no longer support the built-in Touch &#8216;n Go (TnG) function<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The announcement was made by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpn.gov.my\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer dofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Registration Department (JPN)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Director-General Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias at a media engagement session, as reported by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bernama.com\/en\/general\/news.php?id=2554257\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer dofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bernama<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why-Is-the-TnG-Feature-Being-Removed\"><\/span><strong>Why Is the TnG Feature Being Removed?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No official reason has been given for the removal of the embedded Touch &#8216;n Go feature, though the focus of the new card is squarely on enhanced identity security rather than payment functionality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the JPN Director-General, the new MyKad will feature <\/span>53 security elements<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more than double the 23 found on the current version. The upgrades include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Laser engraving<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Ultraviolet (UV) security elements<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Holograms and guilloche patterns<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (the intricate line designs seen on banknotes that make counterfeiting extremely difficult)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Microtext<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">QR codes<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for enforcement use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">A chip with upgraded encryption technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new card also comes alongside updated versions of <\/span>MyPoCA<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span>MyTentera<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which are expected to launch in the same rollout.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do-You-Need-to-Replace-Your-MyKad-Immediately\"><\/span><strong>Do You Need to Replace Your MyKad Immediately?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No, and this is important.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed that &#8220;existing MyKad holders are not legally required to replace their cards,&#8221; once the new version is introduced. Your current card remains valid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means if your MyKad&#8217;s Touch &#8216;n Go feature is still active, you can continue using it until the card&#8217;s <\/span>10-year validity expires<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Only when you apply for a new MyKad, whether voluntarily or because your current one expires, will you receive the new version without TnG.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What-This-Means-for-Your-Wallet\"><\/span><strong>What This Means for Your Wallet<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The practical impact is minimal for most Malaysians, especially those who already rely on the TnG eWallet or a separate TnG card. However, if the MyKad TnG was your backup payment method, say, when you&#8217;ve left your wallet at home, you&#8217;ll need to make sure a TnG card or the eWallet app is always accessible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For those who haven&#8217;t yet switched to the TnG eWallet, a standard <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.touchngo.com.my\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer dofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">physical TnG card<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is available at most LRT stations, convenience stores, and TnG service centres for a nominal fee. If you want special, limited edition TnG cards, you can also visit Touch \u2018n Go&#8217;s official Lazada or Shopee store to get them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official launch date for the new MyKad will be announced by the Home Ministry.
