In comparison, the previous budget was RM10 million in 2024 to RM13 million in 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what does this actually mean? What is SARA anyway? Let\u2019s have a look.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What-is-SARA\"><\/span><b>What is SARA?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As previously mentioned, SARA stands for Sumbangan Asas Rahmah. This is an additional cash aid from the government for the recipients of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/sumbangan-tunai-rahmah-str-apply-check-appeal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR)<\/a> who are designated as poor (belonging below the poverty line) and the hardcore poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>What is Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and how to apply<\/h4>\n<p>This is a targeted cash aid program for Malaysians who are most affected by the rising cost of living. This programme is to raise the economic status of the recipients.<\/p>\n<p>Only Malaysians who are eligible can apply. You can apply online at\u00a0 the STR portal at <a href=\"https:\/\/bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my<\/a> or go in person to the nearest LHDN office.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">STR recipients who are eligible can also qualify for SARA. SARA is designed to help these people buy their essentials, such as household groceries and any other basic necessities they need.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How-much-do-SARA-recipients-get\"><\/span><b>How much do SARA recipients get?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"block\"><div><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>SARA 2025 update<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Ministry of Finance has announced that the aid amount has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mof.gov.my\/portal\/ms\/berita\/siaran-media\/sumbangan-asas-rahmah-sara-secara-mykad-diperluaskan-ke-sabah-dan-sarawak\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increased to RM2,100 in 2025<\/a> compared to RM1,200 in 2024. The programme has also been extended to Sabah and Sarawak. Eligible households to receive this need to be registered in eKasih.<\/div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, household STR recipients received RM100 monthly, totaling up to RM1200.\u00a0 This amount will increase to RM200 monthly starting in April 2025. Any Malaysians who are eligible will automatically receive SARA aid.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How-is-SARA-distributed\"><\/span><b>How is SARA distributed?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my\/Download\/Faq\/SOALAN_LAZIM_(FAQ)_SARA2024_Final19012024_BM.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SARA FAQs page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the SARA cash aid is distributed in two different ways, depending on where the recipient lives;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the recipient lives in Peninsula Malaysia, the cash aid will be credited cashless monthly (either RM100\/RM60 per month) into the recipient\u2019s MyKad. The recipient can then use the cash aid to buy groceries at selected supermarkets or grocery stores located all over the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the recipients live in West Malaysia, the cash aid will be credited straight into their bank accounts bi-yearly (RM600\/RM300 per payout).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What-is-SARA-one-off-payment\"><\/span><strong>What is SARA one-off payment?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The ongoing SARA is distributed monthly for recipients in Peninsula Malaysia, and bi-yearly for recipients in West Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;one-off&#8217; reference came from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/KemKewangan\/posts\/pfbid031kGTz4WFZoUCRLkJ31r6zD531GFbSFgs3BMkhW26kFJEz922YYq3GFgQ7pyd9tuVl?__cft__[0]=AZWGqPxMZlWPO4PIkFWseZaQc1Y8Bu8GpYKHU8v64wkU8NAGN7KAd_xM8-zRLx9qUeWaT6bIaRoRXvo2wXpZC_yDywneaW2aeGSfbEY6Vru73VcMuyrtYJTBqm9gTU_oZ_qs0hj_tp8SF2XIuIiCU4ALO3BTf0kZzcr4pLiqLfcRHQ&amp;__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> in December 2024 from the Ministry of Finance (MoF). Eight million STR recipients who are not from the poor or hardcore poor groups are eligible.
