{"id":63413,"date":"2024-05-14T15:50:13","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T07:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/?p=63413"},"modified":"2024-05-14T17:14:36","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T09:14:36","slug":"banks-warn-nsrc-scammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/banks-warn-nsrc-scammers","title":{"rendered":"Beware Of Scammers Pretending To Be National Scam Response Centre Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><script async defer crossorigin=\"anonymous\" src=\"https:\/\/connect.facebook.net\/en_US\/sdk.js#xfbml=1&#038;version=v19.0\" nonce=\"hn3pkN4c\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and the Association of Islamic Banking and Financial Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) has warned everyone to stay vigilant against scammers pretending to be National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) officers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both associations released a press release together that stated that cases of scams where these scammers were impersonating (NSRC) officers were increasing in number, especially recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these scam scenarios, the scammer will pose as a NSRC officer in an attempt to scare unsuspecting victims by alleging that their personal information, such as National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) number or mobile number, is linked to illegal or fraudulent activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How-the-NSRC-Scam-works\"><\/span><strong>How the NSRC Scam works<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how the scam works;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scammer will call the victim pretending to be an NSRC officer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scammer would then falsely claim that the victim\u2019s identity or personal information have been used in criminal activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scammer will then use lengthy questioning tactics to mimic a real investigation, in order to lend themselves a sense of legitimacy. In some cases, this will involve repeated phone calls over a certain period of time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After getting the victim\u2019s trust, the scammer will ask the victim to leave their debit\/ATM card at an agreed location.
