According to statistics released by the Immigration Department, up to 26 million tourists visited Malaysia in 2023. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These numbers are recorded from 1 January 2023 to 15 November 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, said he hopes that tourist numbers continue to increase, especially following the implementation of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/visa-free-travel-to-malaysia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener dofollow noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30-day visa exemption<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for travellers from India and China from 1 December.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Over-12-million-visitors-arrive-via-Singapore\"><\/span>Over 12 million visitors arrive via Singapore<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the statistics released, up to 12,645,364 tourists originated from Singapore, making up the largest number when sorting by country. This is followed by Indonesia with 3,166,295, Thailand with 2,073,162, China with 1,407,471, Brunei with (904,841), and India (780,532), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2250601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bernama<\/a> reports. The remaining tourists were from other countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For comparison, here is a list of the top 5 countries in SEA in terms of foreign tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malaysia \u2013 26 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thailand \u2013 24.6 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore \u2013 11.3 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vietnam \u2013 11.2 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indonesia \u2013 9.9 million<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"261-million-visitors-in-2019\"><\/span>26.1 million visitors in 2019<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We have yet to see the total amount that tourists spent in Malaysia for 2023 but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourism.gov.my\/statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number of visitors<\/a> have bounced back to pre-pandemic years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-60277 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022.jpg\" alt=\"Malaysia tourist arrivals\" width=\"1200\" height=\"874\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022-800x583.jpg 800w, https:\/\/static.imoney.my\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/13135419\/tourism-2012-to-2022-768x559.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIn an earlier media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourism.gov.my\/media\/view\/tourism-malaysia-leads-promotional-efforts-in-tourism-expo-japan-2023#:~:text=As%20of%20June%202023%2C%209.2,11.1%20billion)%20in%20tourism%20receipts.&amp;text=Malaysia%20Tourism%20Promotion%20Board%2C%20also,Tourism%2C%20Arts%20%26%20Culture%20Malaysia.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, the ministry had highlighted that total tourism receipts until June 2023 amounted to RM49.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Tourism Ministry, tourists spent RM86.1 billion in 2019 while in Malaysia.
