This is due to two major valve replacement works scheduled by the Penang state government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The water supply disruption will happen from the 10th of January to 14th of January, next year. The two major valve replacements will be one of three planned major infrastructure works in Penang for the next 30 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Four-days-scheduled-water-cut\"><\/span>Four days scheduled water cut<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PBAPenang\/posts\/656719659998335?ref=embed_post\">press release<\/a> from Penang\u2019s State Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, the four-day scheduled interruption is necessary to ensure continuous good water supply.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPerbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) apologises for all the inconveniences that will be caused. However, this four day scheduled water supply disruption is necessary to facilitate urgent water works at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP) that will be coordinated with repair and maintenance works at other locations throughout the state of penang,\u201d said Zairil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the press release, it is stated that the two leaking valves are causing significant water loss daily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The press release also informed that the two major works to be done during the water supply disruption will be;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replacement of a 1200mm valve in a major treated water pipeline within the WTP that is leaking, and;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Replacement of another 1200mm valve in a major\u00a0 treated water pipeline within the WTP that is also leaking.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ancillary-works-to-be-carried-out-at-22-locations\"><\/span>Ancillary works to be carried out at 22 locations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The press release also informed the public on other ancillary works will also be done in 22 separate locations during the water supply disruption period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/news\/nation\/2023\/12\/987862\/about-590000-water-consumers-penang-face-four-day-water-supply-disruption\">New Straits Times<\/a> also reported that Zairil explained that some of the parts that are scheduled to be replaced haven&#8217;t been replaced for a very long time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;These are major maintenance operations which need to be carried out. Some of these parts have not been replaced for 50 years and need immediate replacement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;They were supposed to have been replaced one to two years back but we could not find the right time to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We have no choice but to do it now and we are giving one-month notice to the people
