{"id":29003,"date":"2017-03-31T21:35:23","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T13:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/direct.imoney.my\/articles\/?p=29003"},"modified":"2021-08-19T16:49:43","modified_gmt":"2021-08-19T08:49:43","slug":"1mdb-clears-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/1mdb-clears-debt","title":{"rendered":"1MDB Has Cleared RM3 Billion In Debt, Says Najib"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Embattled state investment vehicle 1Malaysia Development (1MDB) has cleared all of its short- and long-term debts amounting to more than RM3 billion over the past two years, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.<\/p>\n<p>In a written parliamentary reply issued on Thursday, Najib said debts including the RM950 million in a standby credit facility from the federal government were fully paid on March 30 last year. Najib is also finance minister.<\/p>\n<p>He added that 1MDB also settled in full the RM229.5 million for a revolving credit facility to Affin Bank on November 23, 2015, and a total of RM662.85 million for a term-financing facility from Exim Bank was paid in full on April 15, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Najib said the finance ministry raised cash amounting to RM10.97 billion through the sale of assets from Edra Global Energy Bhd, equities in Bandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd and land in the Tun Razak Exchange project.<\/p>\n<p>From the moment Najib took over 1MDB in 2009, the fund has remained controversial. Plagued by heavy debt and questionable management decisions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imoney.my\/articles\/1mdb-what-is-the-fuss-all-about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1MDB evolved into a scandal<\/a> that moved closer to the heart of the federal government and is now the focus of numerous foreign investigations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2017\/03\/31\/1mdb-free-of-short-and-longterm-debts-says-najib\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener
