Wants Uber, Grab To Comply With Taxi Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ride-sharing companies Uber and GrabCar would be subjected to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2016\/10\/14\/uber-grabcar-must-follow-taxi-rules-cabinet-decision-is-to-even-out-playing-field-says-nazri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">same rules<\/a> as conventional taxi firms, said Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz on the legalisation of e-hailing services that will be done when the Cabinet meets next week.<\/p>\n<p>The tourism and culture minister said it was the cabinet\u2019s decision to allow for Uber, GrabCar and taxis to have the same terms and a level playing field.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new policy, ride-sharing drivers would need to be registered as well as obtain a public service vehicle license and accident coverage insurance.<\/p>\n<p>Their cars will also be examined for roadworthiness by Puspakom, the main inspection body for commercial vehicles in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Putrajaya\u2019s move to allow Uber and Grab to legally offer rides to passengers is seen as an attempt to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/asia\/se-asia\/malaysia-to-legalise-uber-grab-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">liberalise<\/a> the country\u2019s transport policy.<\/p>\n<p>Taxi drivers are up in arms with the move as they deem ride-sharing services a threat to their income, while the public and tourists fancy ride-sharing services for their fixed pricing and service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2016\/10\/14\/uber-grabcar-must-follow-taxi-rules-cabinet-decision-is-to-even-out-playing-field-says-nazri\/\" target=\"_blank\"
